Discounts and gratuities

Children under the age of 7 benefit from free of charge.

Pupils from accredited/ authorized education, preschool, primary, secondary, high school, special, vocational and post-secondary, who attend an educational unit in Bucharest or Ilfov County, benefit from free of charge, based on the travel card loaded with a valid metropolitan pass. The travel card can be loaded with monthly or annual metropolitan pass. For pupils in their final year of study, the annual metropolitan pass is valid until September 30, inclusive.

Documents required for granting free of charge when purchasing the monthly or annual metropolitan pass:

• pupil’s gradebook for the current year, with the signature and stamp of the issuing educational unit and all completed fields - name/ surname, address, personal identification number;
• birth certificate/ ID/ Passport/ Residence card (the document will be presented only for consultation without being scanned););
• marriage certificate/ Court decisions or other acts of public institutions (if applicable, when there is a change that does not appear from the documents presented).

Orphaned students or students who grew up in children’s homes enrolled in accredited higher education institutions in Bucharest or Ilfov County, up to 26 years old, benefit from free of charge, based on the travel card loaded with a valid metropolitan pass. The travel card can be loaded with monthly or annual metropolitan pass. For orphaned students or students who grew up in children’s homes and are in their final year of study, the annual metropolitan pass is valid until September 30, inclusive.

Documents required for granting free of charge when purchasing the monthly or annual metropolitan pass:

• student ID for public transport discount with the specification “day school” or “school with attendance”, certified with hallmark and signature from the respective education institution;
• document proving that the student is an orphan or raised in children’s home;
• ID/ Passport/ Resident card (the document will be presented only for consultation without being scanned);
• marriage certificate/ Court decisions or other official documents if necessary, when a change appears than cannot be proved by the above mentioned documents).

All categories of pensioners with a permanent residence in the Municipality of Bucharest benefit from free of charge, regardless of the amount of the pension, based on the travel card for pensioners or the pension coupon and the ID.

Necessary form for granting gratuities for pensioners.

Senior companions benefit from free of charge, if the pensioners they accompany have permanent residence in the Municipality of Bucharest and are at least 63 years old in the case of women and 65 years old in the case of men, based on the travel card for pensioners loaded with a valid metropolitan pass or the pension coupon and the ID.

War veterans benefit from free of charge, based on the travel card issued by National Association of War Veterans representatives from any district of Bucharest Municipality or from Ilfov County.

The revolutionaries and the descendants of those who died in the Revolution of December 1989 (according to the provisions of Law 341/2004) benefit from free of charge, based on the travel card issued by STB SA, through the Patrimony-Administrative Office.

Documents required to extend the validity of travel cards:

• the revolutionary certificate (original and copy);
• ID (original and copy).

The beneficiaries of Law 341/2004 who handed over the original revolutionary certificate for exchange, will have a copy of the revolutionary certificate and the report

on which the certificate was handed over, as well as the original ID.

The travel card has a validity of 1 year and can be extended at the Patrimony-Administrative Office within the Headquarters of STB SA. 

The travel card will be issued only to the holder or to another person named by the holder in a notarized power of attorney document.

Beneficiaries of gratuities that replace the old travel document with the travel card will hand over the old travel document to the Patrimony-Administrative Office.

Persecuted people for ethnical causes – displaced/ deported (the holder or the surviving spouse) benefit from free of charge (according to the provisions of Law 189/2000), based on the travel card issued by STB SA, through the Patrimony-Administrative Office.

Documents required to extend the validity of travel cards:

• the resolution issued by the National House of Public Pensions (original);
• ID (original and copy);
• the last pension coupon under this law.

The travel card has a validity of 1 year and can be extended at the Patrimony-Administrative Office within the Headquarters of STB SA. 

The travel card will be issued only to the holder or to another person named by the holder in a notarized power of attorney document.

Beneficiaries of gratuities that replace the old travel document with the travel card will hand over the old travel document to the Patrimony-Administrative Office.

Former political prisoners - persons persecuted for political reasons (holder or surviving spouse) benefit from free of charge (according to the provisions of Law 118/1990), based on the travel card issued by STB SA, through the Patrimony - Administrative Office.

Documents required to extend the validity of travel cards:

• the decision regarding the admission of the request for granting the rights provided by Law 118/1990, issued by the National Agency for Payments and Social Inspection (original);
• ID (original and copy);
• the last pension coupon under this law.

The validity of the travel card is 1 year and can be extended at the Patrimony-Administrative Office within the Headquarters of STB SA.

The travel card will be issued only to the holder or to another person named by the holder in a notarized power of attorney document.

Beneficiaries of gratuities that replace the old travel card with the travel card will hand over the card to the Patrimony-Administrative Office.

People with severe or accentuated disabilities, the personal assistants of the people with severe or accentuated disabilities and the professional personal assistants of the people with severe or accentuated disabilities benefit from free of charge, based on the urban travel card with surface public transport issued by the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection from any county or district of Bucharest Municipality.

The staff of the Bucharest City Hall and of the institutions and public services of local interest of the Bucharest Municipality benefit from free of charge, based on the work badge.

Day school students enrolled in accredited higher education institutions in Bucharest or Ilfov County, up to 26 years old, benefit from a 50% discount on the purchase of metropolitan passes valid for 1 month, 6 months or 12 months.

Documents required for purchasing the metropolitan passes valid for 1 month, 6 months or 12 months with a 50% discount:

• student ID for public transport discount with the specification “day school” or “school with attendance”, certified with hallmark and signature from the respective education institution;
• ID/ Passport/ Resident card (the document will be presented only for consultation without being scanned);
• marriage certificate/ Court decisions or other official documents if necessary (when a change appears than cannot be proved by the above mentioned documents).

Blood donors benefit from a 50% discount on the purchase of the monthly metropolitan pass.

Documents required for purchasing the monthly metropolitan pass with a 50% discount::

• donor certificate;
• ID

If the blood donor doesn’t have a valid pass at the time of donation, the donor can purchase it within one calendar month from the date of donation. The validity period of the pass starts from the day it was requested at a sale center or from the next day.

If the blood donor already has a valid pass at the time of donation, the validity of the pass may be extended by another month, starting immediately after the day on which the existing pass expires.
